The moment has finally come when many months of procrastination gives way to action. My first toe dip into the world of blogging. I’ve thought about doing this for a long time and put it off for so long because of other hit and miss experience with social media.

Facebook was great when I was ten years younger and wanted to get all my information from within my own social echo chamber but as I aged so to did my network whose lives either became very normal (no bad thing) or increasingly right wing! It seems odd to me that as my peers and I enter our 40’s (eeesh) none of us seems to be getting more liberal.

The pull towards centre seems pervasive and my former lefty leanings seem juvenile idealisms now. Do not confuse my move to centre as anything approaching the right side of the poliical and idealogical devide, I am an educated, open-minded, hopefully colour blind, immigrant. I believe in equality and further believe that the term equality shouldn’t come with a qualifying adjective or noun.

Twitter was great for a while but I simply didn’t have the time or energy to keep up with the frequency of posts I felt necessary to keep my head above water. I also found that I simply reacted to most things others were saying and joined in conversations rather than expressing widely what mattered to me.

So what does matter to me and what will form the basis of content on here? Well, I’m a dad to a two year old boy who occupied most of my free time so there’ll be blogs about being a dad and more specifically about being an older dad. I came late to the fatherhood game and that poses some unique sets of challenges key among those is intergration of family  and work. I work as a medical researcher so there’ll likely be blogs (rants) about the struggles of academia in a world that seems increasingly sceptical of experts. In my spare time I’m a passionate cyclist so there may be the occasional story about that. Oh and there’s politics. I’m not allowed to talk about polotocal stuff at work so this might be a good platform for sharing some of my views.

So that’s it really, hopefully this will be pretty relaxed and not preachy but maybe the dad and science bits will be of interest to some!
